WHAT IS A DIAPER CAKE?
Diaper Cakes (a.k.a. baby cakes, baby shower cakes) are unique baby gifts made with disposable diapers (or cloth diapers) and styled to look like a cake. Diaper Cakes can range from simple to elaborate and are perfect for baby shower gifts and baby shower centerpieces.

WHY GIVE A DIAPER CAKE
Caring for mom and baby is what giving a diaper cake gift is all about. New moms need all the help they can get, especially with diapering her new baby, and what better way to help out than providing her with a supply of diapers. * Babies 22 to 37 pounds, average 4.9 changes per day, = 1,400 diapers used in 41 weeks.
* The total number of diapers typically used in a 100-week diaper cycle is 4,124 diapers.
The cost of diapers:
Disposable diapers cost an average of $.24 per change.
$.24 per change x 49 changes per week = $11.76 per week
$11.76 per week x 130 week per diapering period = $1529.00

PROPER PRODUCT USE
As with any gift intended for baby, parents should always inspect everything they give their child. At TUMBLEWEED BABIES, caring for your baby's safety is our highest priority.
Parents should NOT simply hand the fully assembled gift to the baby. Creating Diaper Cakes requires assembly accessories (ribbons, pins, etc.) that are NOT intended for baby's use.
Please read the caution tag that is on each product. Always remove all pins, retail tagging, tape, and ribbons before use with baby. If your diaper cakes includes layette items (blankets, onesies, bibs, burp cloths, etc.) and/or plush toys, we recommend you wash those items before use in accordance with the manufacturer's washing instructions.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What size diapers are used in your diaper cakes?
Generally, Stage 1 or Stage 1-2 diapers (up to 15 pounds) are used so that the new parents and baby can enjoy the cake just a little bit longer before needing to break it down and use its ingredients.
2. How many days will my gift keep baby diapered?
Below is a diaper cake tier size guide to help you choose the right size for your baby gift:
- Cupcakes with 8 Diapers last about 1.1 days
- 1 Tier Cakes with 10 Diapers last about 1.5 days
- 1 Tier Cakes with 15 Diapers last about 2.1 days
- 2 Tier Cakes with 20 Diapers last about 2.8 days
- 2 Tier Cakes with 25 Diapers last about 3.5 days
- 3 Tier Cakes with 35 Diapers last about 5 days
- 3 Tier Cakes with 40 Diapers last about 5.7 days
- 3 Tier Cakes with 55 Diapers last about 8 days
- 4 Tier Cakes with 55 Diapers last about 8 days
3. Can I Customize my Diaper Cake?:
* Depending on the Diaper Cake style and type, custom options such as personalization or adding natural Burt's Bees Baby Bee products in lieu of Johnson & Johnson may be available. Please read each individual product description carefully as it will detail any available options.
* We can also create a custom diaper cake for you. Simply call or email us with details and we'll let you know if it's possible and how much it will cost.
At TUMBLEWEED BABIES, we carefully select the ingredients we add to your diaper cake for safety, style and usefulness.
* DIAPERS
* All Diaper Cakes include brand name Disposable Diapers, usually Pampers Swaddlers, Pampers or Huggies.
* Organic and Eco-Friendly diaper cakes include HUGGIES Naturals or Seventh Generations diapers.
DIAPER CAKE ACCESSORY ITEMS
If applicable, the accessory items we add to your cake are:
* JOHNSON & JOHNSON
Baby Take-Along Pack (all or part of the pack, depending on diaper cake size). Pack Includes:
-Baby Shampoo
-Baby Lotion
-Baby Wash
-Desitin Cream (diaper rash ointment)
-Baby Powder
-Soothing Naturals lotion
* BURT'S BEES BABY BEE
Burt's Bees Baby Bee products are made with the most natural ingredients available.
If you choose to have Burts Bee products added to your diaper cake, we will include all or part of a Burt's Baby Bee "Getting Started Kit" (depending on diaper cake size). Burt's Bee products replace the Johnson & Johnson items.
Although content may vary, the "Getting Started Kit" usually include:
- Apricot Baby Oil
- Dusting Powder
- Buttermilk Lotion
- Diaper Ointment
- Buttermilk Bath Soak
* TOYS, TEETHERS, RATTLES, ETC.
We take great care in selecting the toys we include with each diaper cake. All toys are safety tested and CPSIA compliant. We proudly feature major brands that are trusted names in the Toy Industry (Mary Meyer, First & Main, Baby Einstein, Disney, Fisher Price, Carter, Gerber, MiYim, Russ Berrie Baby, and more).
* BABY BOTTLES
If the cake you're ordering includes a baby feeding bottle, you can rest assured that we only include BPA FREE bottles (or you can add in the comments during checkout that you don't want a baby bottle at all).
* BLANKETS, BIBS, BURP CLOTHS, ETC.
Many of our diaper cakes are fashioned to include baby blankets, bibs, burp cloths and other layette items. Every item we include in our diaper cakes has been safety tested and is CPSIA compliant.
